Lunchmeat & Life Lessons:
Sharing a Butcher's Wisdom
By Mary B. Lucas

Author Mary Lucas has earned a Bachelor's Degree but she used the letters B.D. after her name, not B.A. or B.S. The B.D. stands for Butcher's Daughter and reflects her gratitude for her father who passed on his "Butcher's Wisdom" to her.

As one of ten children and the first not to be a butcher or teacher, her ventures into the business world were accompanied by stories and wise tips from her practical father. For example, the first bit of Butcher's Wisdom is "Show 'em what you're made of." The butcher father always told his employees to remember that the first piece of meat you sell is yourself.

Lucas admits that she thought her father's advice wasn't the most sophisticated but his real life experience and people skills were invaluable in any business scenario.

The snippets designated as Butcher's Wisdom are not brand new or revolutionary ideas. Most are based on common sense and decency. The way they are presented, in the context of the butcher father's experience shared with the up-and-coming career girl, is what makes this book special.

Since it's a true story, there are sad times. Nobody lives forever. But the wisdom and example from the butcher father made it manageable for the sorrowful daughter to handle.

Lunchmeat & Life Lessons: Sharing a Butcher's Wisdom is just over 100 pages and includes a tear-out summary of the Butcher's Wisdom.
