Dear Webby
Wedding shower for 2nd marriage

Dear Webby,

I received an invitation for a wedding shower for a friend who has been living with her fiancé for 3 years. This is a 2nd marriage for both of them. What is the purpose of a shower?

Wondering

Dear Wondering,

Webby thinks a shower for someone in the circumstances you describe is ridiculous. Unless they have been living in a furnished apartment they are probability better off than most.

A shower is supposed to help a young couple start a household. I doubt that this pair needs that kind of help. Webby would rather see a girl's night out or some other event in honor of the marriage.

There is nothing wrong with being too busy to attend and sending your regrets.

If you choose to go, consider something like a set of towels or sheets. We always like fresh new ones.

Webby would not personalize them - they could be obsolete next year! (shame on you Webby) If they really have everything how about a dinner gift card or a good bottle of wine?

This is not first time Webby has heard of 2nd and even a 4th wedding shower! They have become all too common or could it be that Webby has become too out of touch with the times?
