Spring has Sprung
Claire's Weight Loss Review

I was so excited when I created this chart. Not just because I actually figured out how to create a chart in Word (props for me), but also because I can see the progress that I've made on my diet.

Claire's diet chart

At the end of 2005, my weight was down 21.4 pounds! That's pretty spectacular. And what makes it even better is that despite the holidays and the winter doldrums (and my continual stress eating), I've managed to keep most of that off.

2006 has had its ups and downs weight-wise - mostly ups, I'm afraid. But although I'm no longer at my December low, I'm only a couple of pounds off. And, hey, it's already March!

This is very encouraging to me for several reasons:

1. I've been paying attention to my weight and making adjustments to keep it from going wildly out of control. (I'm still writing my weight down on my calendar every day.)

2. I've been eating foods that I like, and not killing myself with exercise, but still maintaining my weight loss. (See #1)

3. Because I did it last year and had success, I believe I can do the same this year with equal success.

4. I feel that when I do reach my goal (and I will reach my goal) that I will be able to keep it off.

I've had a lot of false starts this year, but I'm finally ready to start dieting again. Why? Because the Lumpy Girl is back!

I hate to admit it, but it's true. While I may have been maintaining my weight, I haven't been maintaining anything else. Muscle tone has given way to flab. Stamina has decreased. Belly has risen above waistband like a cupcake over a baking cup. Stretch jeans have reached maximum capacity. Lumpiness abounds.

I know this won't be easy. Lumpy Girl is still as stubborn as she used to be. She still doesn't like to exercise. She still prefers fries to salad. She still whispers in my ear, "eat the chocolate!"

But I broke her hold on me last year and I know I can do it again. I am hoping that once again, with the encouragement (and/or ridicule) of other Cleveland women, I can lose those final 20-some pounds and banish Lumpy Girl from my mirror - for good!

Are you with me?
