ClevelandWomen.Com Book Club Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray
Discussion Questions - Cake was Ruth's way to de-stress, whether imagining herself inside of a warm Bundt, or sifting together ingredients in her kitchen. Do you have an activity that makes you feel the same way? What is it, and why does it make you feel better?
- All Ruth knew of her parents' marriage was that it didn't work. Having the two of them together under one roof, however, exposed a side of them and their relationship she never knew. What at first had seemed like a trial became a gift. Have you ever experienced this type of revelation in your life? How did it affect you?
- Do you think this revelation helped Ruth to take action under the strain of her husband losing his job to make sure her own marriage would survive?
- I liked the way that Ruth's family finally rallied around her to aid in her success and became participants in her new endeavor, rather than just onlookers. Can you share a story about how your family came together to help you or another relative?
- It took an outsider - Florence, the occupational therapist - to convince Ruth that she could start her own business. Why is it easier for us to believe someone else, rather than one of our relatives?
- Did reading this book make you want to bake a cake? Did you try any of the recipes in the back?
